Inverness makes an ideal base for exploring the highlands with Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle,
Whisky Distilleries,
the coastal villages on the Black Isle and some of the most beautiful glens all within close proximity. To the east lies Nairn and Culbin Sands with its long stretches of golden beaches and many charming fishing
villages beyond.
To the north are many interesting
places to visit such as Dornoch,
Dunrobin Castle, John o’Groats and the Island of Orkney.
To the south lies Aviemore, the Cairngorm National Park, the scenic Spey Valley with its pretty villages and many places of interest such as the Boat of Garten with its famous steam railway and the Osprey hide.
Some of the most spectacular scenery is on the west coast with Eilean Donan Castle and the picturesque
villages of Ullapool, Applecross, Plockton and Isle of Skye well worth a visit.
A drive alongside Loch Ness to Fort Augustus and beyond to Fort William should not be missed.
The Inverness area is a paradise for outdoor pursuits with several well-known golf courses, great fishing in the many rivers and lochs, bird watching, spectacular walks, scenic cycling routes and even ski-ing in the Cairngorms. There is so much to do, you will want to come back again.
